By Colleen MacDonald and Kyle MacDonald

My name is Kyle MacDonald and this is my story:

One day I was sitting in my apartment and writing at my computer.

I started thinking it would be nice to have a house.

But then I remembered that I didn’t have any money to buy one.

So I thought and I thought, “Hmmm..how can I get a house?”

I wondered if I could trade something?

But what did I have to trade?

That’s when I looked down and spotted a red paperclip laying on my desk.

I decided to see what would happen.

I posted a picture of the red paperclip on my website.

This is what I wrote:

This might not surprise you, but below is a picture of a paperclip. It is red. This red paperclip is currently sitting on my desk next to my computer. I want to trade this paperclip with you for something bigger or better, maybe a pen, a spoon, or perhaps a boot. If you promise to make the trade I will come and visit you, wherever you are, to trade. So, if you have something bigger or better than a red paperclip, email me. Hope to trade with you soon! Kyle

I traded my one red paperclip
with Rawnie and Corinna for one fish pen

which was exchanged with Annie for one doorknob

that Shawn saw and bartered his coleman stove

that was then swapped with Sgt. David J. for one red generator

that Marcin eyed and switched it for one instant party

that I traded Michel Barrette for one famous skidoo

that was upped by Jeff to one trip to Yahk

and then swapped for Bruno’s one cube van

that Brendrum converted into one recording contract

that Jody Gnant traded for
one year in Phoenix

and was swapped with Leslie for
one afternoon with Alice Cooper

that Mark switched for one kiss snowglobe

that Corbin turned into one movie role

and was finally turned into
one house

by the town of Kipling Saskatchewan Canada
